Teaching Practicum II is the core course for education. It runs for 12 weeks in selected Malaysian secondary schools. Students will teach their major courses subjects. They will be observed three times by the supervisor and two times by the school teachers of which guidance will be given throughout the duration so as to widen their knowledge and increase their performance in teaching in and outside the classroom. Therefore, students will understand the real school climate and culture, build their personality and character as effective teachers.

Teaching Practicum 1 is the core course in teacher education. It runs for eight weeks. Students (teacher trainees) will teach their minor subject. Continuous guidance will be given by the school teachers and also by their supervisor so as to enhance their knowledge and increase the teaching and learning performance in and out the classroom. Therefore, students will experience the real situation as an excellent and effective teachers.

Practicum or field placement is one of the requirements of the Bachelor of Social Work Management Programme in Universiti Utara Malaysia and is a life-long learning process. Candidates must undergo practicum training in two blocks. The purpose of the first Practicum (Practicum 1) is to introduce students to various human services agencies and organisations in the community to provide the opportunity for them to expose to agency and community programmes, events and activities related to social work (in areas of professional social service). They are expected to understand how the organisations function and carry out community work.

Practicum is an off-campus experiential learning activity designed to allow students to make connections between the theory and practice of academic study and the practical application of that study in a professional work environment. The six (6) months of attachment with the selected organisation offers the opportunity for the student to try out a career while gaining relevant experience and professional connections. Practicum is completed under the guidance of an on-site supervisor and an appointed university supervisor, who, in combination with the student, will create a framework for learning and reflection. Upon completion, the student must submit a digital (blog) written report based on the guidelines set up by the Media Technology Programme.
