This course provides students with analytical and practical skills to plan, develop, manage, and improve the effectiveness of a software or computing-related project through hands-on, project management and development, and research activities. Students will be able to prepare a project proposal, article, and report. The purpose of the course is to guide students in applying the concepts and techniques of research methodology, project management and development activities, software tools, and techniques in analysing and interpreting data that can greatly enhance their computing skills.

This course discusses the synergy between artificial intelligence and web based technology in enhancing the web application and services. The topics covered are overview on artificial intelligence, web intelligence, information retrieval, semantic web and knowledge management, web mining, social networks and agent based system on web.

Students will be able to prepare a research proposal, article, and report. At the end of this course students have to deliver an oral presentation on the research. The purpose of the course is to guide students in applying the concepts and techniques of research methodology, project management and development activities, software tools, and techniques in analysing and interpreting data that can greatly enhance their geomatics for disaster risk reduction skills.

This course requires students to conduct a study to complete a research paper in the field of Social Work. Students can select a topic related to their area of specialization and complete the research paper based on their studies.

To support the students while implementing one of the research processes (i.e. analysing data), a seminar and 2 days of workshops will be conducted intending to expose students to Data mining Using SAS Enterprise Miner. At the end of this course, students are required to construct a research report.

The Masters project paper is scheduled for final semester, and consequently viewed as the final assessment component of the Masters programme. This project paper provides an opportunity to student to conduct original research on a subject that interests student. Although project paper is an independent study, the aim of this paper is to provide proper guidance to student to conduct and produce a standard research product on his/her own. In the process of completing his/her project paper, student is required to discuss with his/her supervisor. Project supervision is conducted individually and takes the form of supervisory meetings.
