The course will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills to develop and carry out a research. In particular, the course aims at teaching students about research design, strategies, methods, and process. The important steps in planning a research project, such as problem identification and formulation of the research question, developing the study objective, reviewing related literature and formulating a model will also be covered. Additionally, methods for data collection and analysis are included. The course also discusses the preparations involved in writing a research proposal.

This course helps students to prepare effectively for the range of writing tasks they will encounter in the M.Ed / M.Sc.Ed. programme. The course will enhance students knowledge of the essential principles and practices of research-based writing in Education, including genre and audience awareness, language and style, self-editing and documentation. Throughout the course, they are expected to analyse and critique writing samples. They will also apply skills such as organizing, paraphrasing, synthesizing, justifying and supporting ideas in their own writing.

This graduate-level course is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to conduct an educational research scientifically. In particular, this course emphasizes on research design, strategies, methods, and process of conducting research. Additionally, it will cover the essential steps in planning a research project such as problem identification and formulation of the research question, developing the objective of the study, reviewing related literature, and formulating research framework. Apart from that, methods for data collection, data analyses for both quantitative and qualitative approaches will be discussed. It will devote considerable time to the research proposal and final report of the research.

This course exposes students to practical and rhetorical strategies to develop effective academic writing. It focuses on producing a well-formed, accurate and comprehensible conceptual paper that meets the academic standards and conventions.

Corporate finance incorporates both the short- and long-term knowledge of financial management to assist companies in their decision making. Everything a company does involve the financial aspect and dimension. Therefore, this course is designed to enhance the overall managerial understanding of corporate finance. Specifically, it aims to integrate students ability to analyze, interpret, and use facts and figures effectively to arrive at corporate financial decisions. Exposure to contemporary issues of corporate finance in Malaysia would also be incorporated to ensure the applicability of this course to real situations.

This course provides training in qualitative data analysis on a practical level. Students will comprehend the fundamentals of qualitative data analysis, investigate the different interpretive analytic methodologies, examine their application, and apply them to data. Significant opportunities will abound to analyze qualitative data manually or with computer-assisted qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS).

This course focuses on a range of issues relating to socio-cultural contexts of language learning and use, and their associations with ESL/EFL pedagogy. Topics explored include language-culture relationships, the language classroom as a cultural context, challenges of teaching a global language and developing intercultural communicative competence. Students will explore context and culture as possible sources of conflict and concord in language learning and communication, and examine theory, research and pedagogical practices that address related issues.

The course is designed to provide teachers and English Language Teaching (ELT) related practitioners with core issues in ELT and its development. The course focuses on the fundamentals of language teaching, looking at methods and the teaching of the four skills and grammar and vocabulary. Various approaches in ELT will be discussed, which cover classroom practices and methods of testing. Students taking this course are expected to draw upon their teaching and professional experiences in order to enrich their learning experience and relate the discussion to various ELT contexts.

This course examines the outlines of revenue administration and expenditure of the federal government and state governments, analysing the roles of Parliament, Treasury, Office of the Auditor General, and Accountant Office as the main institutions in the financial administration. It involves the aspects of budget, procurement, accounting, and auditing. This course will also examine the constitutions and a few other concepts and principles as the principles governing good public financial management, accountability, transparency, and value for money.?

This course aims to expose students to the basic and the scope of public administration in Malaysia. The course will introduce the theories, models and concepts relating to the field of public administration in particular those being adopted and practiced abroad. Public administration is closely related to other disciplines such as political science, economics and management. Thus, this course will also introduce several approaches in the study of other knowledge in relation to public administration. In addition, the process and political system, the structure and function of the institutions of government will be examined. The relationship between the government under the framework of federalism of Malaysia is important in laying the basic structure of public administration in Malaysia and this concept will also be discussed.

This course covers the discussion of pre-industrial family form and current family form, changes in form, function and pattern of family members relationship. This course also emphasizes on the factors that influence the relationship pattern and practices process in a family. Discussion also covers conflict, separation and divorce which lead to marital and family dissolution. Students will be exposed to various therapies and services which are being offered by various agencies and family establishment programs. Current issues are debated across the scope of family varieties and culture. Focus is also given to theories, research and evaluations related to various aspects of family relationships.

The focus of this course is on the theories and practice of social work with children and adolescents. Discussion will centre upon developmental, familial and environmental factors that influence the behaviour of children and adolescents. The impact of family dynamics and how it affects childrens well-being will be discussed. This course also focuses on the techniques in conducting case assessments, with specific focus on current issues and assessment of strengths and resilience in determining appropriate interventions for the child clients and their families. Students will also be exposed to the planning and policy development relevant to children and adolescents.

The purpose of this course is to provide an up-to-date grounding in how the Internet and democracy work in the public sphere. This course will begin by examining the following major themes: a) the values embedded in the structure of the early Internet by the people who created it; b) the economics of abundance and the power of platforms; c) the collision between broadcast politics and the networked public sphere; and d) the workings of decentralized, open and networked organizations. The current debate over Internet freedom explores the tension between the newly empowered networked public sphere and private platform providers and the issues surrounding user rights and privacy. At each stage in the course, you will also study critics of Internet utopianism and the need for a balanced and realistic understanding of how net-enabled mass participation can change politics and government for the better. Upon completion, the student should understand how government actors, elected representatives, political advocates and civic activists are adapting to the changing context of public life in the networked age.

This seminar will discuss important areas related to the English Language Teaching (ELT) practitioner such as teacher training, types of systems of schooling (private vs. public), management of ELT, status of English, status of teachers, and native versus non-native teachers of English. The main aim of this student-led seminar will be to allow students to reflect on their professional experiences in general and on one aspect of their experience in depth. Students will decide on topics of relevance to them with the view of the audience, which is the MEd ELT group as a whole. Initially, students will be encouraged to form small groups and explain certain aspects of their teaching/professional contexts to each other, guided by staff. For the main part of the course, students will form loose groups working on similar issues and a timetable of presentations (conference style, controlled timing) to the whole group will be drawn up. This seminar will be a venue for students to discuss issues which are of importance to them and the ELT profession.

This course is designed to introduce to the students the principles and methods of qualitative research for communication. At the beginning of this course, students will be introduced to the qualitative research philosophy, scientific characteristics and various other approaches. To equip students with broader skills of qualitative enquiries strategy, techniques such as interviewing, focus group, observation, ethnography, experimental, historiography, case study, and content analysis are discussed by referring to relevant examples of communication and media research. Students will also be provided a first-hand experience in data analysis through a lab session using a powerful qualitative data analysis software-NVivo.

The course will provide students with the necessary knowledge and skills in computing and information technology applications used in the tourism industry. In particular, the course aims at teaching students about the profound and rapid changes of global connectivity through the Internet, mobile technologies, and broadband communications. Students will be exposed to the new era of management and leadership using information technology applications. The course also discusses the websites, videos, and case studies related to information technologies in the tourism industry.

This course is to prepare and equip students with knowledge and skills in MNC's environment. These include synthesizing and analyzing various MNC's strategies to be implemented in enhancing firm's competitiveness and sustainability.
